Vol. 129 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Broadcasting Transmitter for Cork.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state what is the proposed power of the new transmitter to be erected in Cork.

The broadcasting transmitter which it is proposed to provide in Cork will be of five kw. power.

Is the Minister satisfied that that power is adequate? I am not saying this by way of criticism. I am merely anxious to know if the Minister is satisfied that the power is adequate.

As far as I am aware, the power is adequate for the district.

Does the Minister consider that a transmitter of that power could reach the South of England?

The transmitter in question is not intended for anything but the local district of Cork. The conformation of the hill behind Cork is one of the reasons for having the station there.
