Vol. 129 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Selling Price for Pigs.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the present high cost of foodstuffs which makes the breeding of pigs an uneconomic proposition, he will fix a minimum guaranteed selling price for pigs so as to give the producer a fair return on his outlay.

Mr. Walsh

I cannot agree that pig production is uneconomic at present prices, particularly when it is based on home-grown feeding stuffs. In my opinion the fixing of minimum prices for pigs would serve no useful purpose in present circumstances.
