Vol. 129 No. 5

Committee on Finance. - Vote 24—Stationery and Printing.

I move:—

That a supplementary sum not exceeding £111,400 be granted to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1952, for the Salaries and Expenses of the Stationery Office; for Stationery, Printing, Paper, Binding and Printed Books for the Public Service; and for sundry Miscellaneous Services, including Reports of Oireachtas Debates.

The House will see that the main increases which occasion this Supplementary Estimate arise under sub-head G for printing and sub-head H for paper. The increases under sub-head G are due to the increase in wage rates which have taken place over the course of the year. The increases under sub-head H arise from the unforeseen increases in the cost of paper. As everybody knows there has been a general rise in the price of that commodity.

Is there any increase in volume under sub-head A as well?

Nothing so significant as to be responsible in any major way for this increase.

Vote put and agreed to.
