Vol. 129 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Killarney Bog Roads.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he has received applications in his Department for the making of two bog roads at Dirrinadin, Mastergeehy, Killarney, and, if so, if he will indicate whether grants will be allocated for this purpose.

I assume that the roads in question are those which were the subject of letters issued to the Deputy from the Special Employment Schemes Office.

As indicated in these letters, the proposals will be given careful consideration if applications are submitted under the rural improvements scheme, which requires a contribution from the beneficiaries.

The unemployment position in the area does not warrant the sanction of full-cost grants under minor employment schemes.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that subsequently applications were made for these works under the rural improvement scheme and, in view of the urgency of the project, will he give an assurance that they will be sanctioned at an early date?

I cannot give that assurance but I am sure they will be considered in line with similar schemes now coming up.
