Vol. 129 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gross Agricultural Production.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the official index number for gross agricultural production (excluding turf) including provision for changes in numbers of live stock for each year from 1938 to 1951 inclusive.

There are no official index numbers of gross agricultural production, excluding turf and making provision for changes in live stock. The particulars required by the Deputy for the years 1938-39 to 1950 have, however, been compiled and are as follows. The figure for 1951 is not yet available.

VOLUME of gross agricultural output (excluding turf) and making allowance for changes in live stock between the beginning and end of the year of inquiry, to base 1938-39 taken as 100.

Do these figures show that the gross agricultural production of this country has, in fact, expanded more rapidly than that of any other country in Europe?

That is a separate question.

May I ask would the Taoiseach kindly direct the attention of the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs to these figures so that when he is next appearing before the county committees of agriculture he will be more comprehensive?

Question No. 3.
