Vol. 129 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition and Division of Laoighis Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the position concerning the division of the balance of the Robinson estate, Kilnacash, Mountmellick, County Laoighis, which has been set by conacre for several years past, and whether this estate has been, or is about to be, acquired for division amongst the tenants concerned.

The Land Commission have decided not to acquire this estate.

In view of the fact that this estate has been set by conacre for a long number of years, may I take it, since the Land Commission divided portion of it, that they are fairly definite in that, because some local people have been informed recently that the lands are about to be inspected and that action is about to be taken? Now the Minister tells the House that there is a definite decision not to acquire the lands. May I take it that this decision will not be altered in the course of the next few weeks?

I have nothing to add.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Hackett estate, Meelick, Rosenallis, County Laoighis, has as yet been acquired by the Land Commission for division amongst the local people; and if he is in a position to state when the lands will be allocated amongst the successful applicants.

The proceedings for the acquisition of this estate have not been completed and it is not possible at this stage to state whether or when the lands will be allotted.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the position concerning the Weldon estate, Kilmasoney, Athy, County Laoighis; and when the lands will be allotted to the local people.

The proceedings in this case are well advanced but it is too early yet to indicate whether or when the lands will be acquired. It is unlikely that the lands will become available for allotment this spring.

asked the Minister for Lands when the lands on the Trench estate and Bearcroft estate, Ballybrittas, County Laoighis, will be allocated amongst the successful applicants.

It is expected that these estates will be allotted in the near future.

Could the Minister give any information as to the possibility of having the estate allotted so that the successful applicants may have land to till during the present year?

I am sure the commissioners bear that in mind.
