Vol. 129 No. 8

- Milk Costings Inquiry Board

asked the Minister for Agriculture what representation, if any, will be given to small milk producers in the congested districts on the proposed milk costings inquiry board.

Mr. Walsh

As I have already announced, the Committee on Milk Production Costs will include two representatives of suppliers of milk to creameries and two representatives of producers of milk for liquid consumption. I am satisfied that these four representatives will adequately look after the interests of milk producers generally, including those to whom the Deputy refers.

In view of the large number of small milk producers in this country, would not the Minister deem it essential to have a representative of the small milk producers on this board? I take it that the representatives who will be on the board will be big milk producers and the bigger farmers?

Mr. Walsh

I have no idea who the creameries may appoint as their representatives on the commission.

Am I to take it from the Minister's reply that he is not going to take any action?

Mr. Walsh

It is a matter for the people supplying milk to creameries to appoint their own representatives.
