Vol. 129 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork City Plasterers.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that a plasterer, permanently residing in Cork City and permanently working as a plasterer within the county borough, has been defined as an agricultural labourer by his Department; and, if so, whether he will take steps to alter this ridiculous position by the introduction of proposals for legislation or otherwise.

The term "agricultural labourer" for the purposes of the Labourers Acts is defined by statute, not by the Department. The legal definition is being further considered in connection with the Housing Bill which I hope to introduce shortly.

Is the Minister aware that, according to the definitions I got, even a bank manager in Cork City would be classed as an agricultural labourer?

This is a special Cork definition.
