Vol. 129 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when the Electricity Supply Board propose to extend the electricity supply system to the Toomevara area.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that Rathurles area, County Tipperary, which includes the village of Toomevara, has been selected by the board for development under the rural electrification scheme. It is expected that work on the erection of the distribution network in the area will commence in the early summer of this year.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when a scheme of rural electrification for Killeigh village, near Tullamore, County Offaly, will be undertaken in view of the local demand for it.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the village of Killeigh is included, for the purposes of the rural electrification scheme, in the Rahan area, County Offaly. The selection of the Rahan area for development under the scheme has been considered by the board on a number of occasions. The area has not so far been selected for development as its financial return is low in comparison with that of other areas. It is not possible at this stage to say when the development of the area is likely to take place.
