Vol. 129 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Woodenbridge Sub-Post Office.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that the closing of the sub-post office at Woodenbridge, County Wicklow, for the past eight months has caused considerable inconvenience to residents and tourists in the area, and, further, that there are no telephone facilities available owing to the closing of this office; and, if so, whether he will state when arrangements will be made to have an office opened in this district.

The sub-office of Woodenbridge has had to be closed because of inability to obtain a suitable sub-postmaster. The vacant post will be re-advertised within the next couple of months and the office will be reopened if a suitable candidate is forthcoming.

Could the Minister give an undertaking that the reopening of the post office will take place before the Easter Recess, in view of the fact that an increasing number of tourists will be coming into the country about that time?

In view of the history of very bad luck in connection with this post office, which must be known to the Deputy, it would be rather unwise for me to make any promises in regard to it.

Would the Minister do his utmost to have the post office reopened before Easter?

The matter is receiving attention.
