Vol. 129 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Samples.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will indicate the method used to determine the presence or otherwise of tuberculosis infection in the milk sample figures given recently in a reply to a question on this matter.

Mr. Walsh

I am advised that the biological method used for testing milk samples for tuberculosis infection is that the milk is centrifuged, the supernating fluid is drained off and the deposit is injected subcutaneously or intraperitoneally into guinea pigs. The guinea pigs are slaughtered after two months and the carcases examined for evidence of tuberculosis.
