Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Welfare (Insurance) Bill.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the estimated number of employed persons to whom the provisions of the Social Welfare (Insurance) Bill, 1951, will not apply by reason of the exclusion from the scope of the Bill of persons whose wages or salaries are in excess of £600 per annum.

The number of persons to whom the Deputy refers is believed to be of the order of 20,000 or 30,000.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the estimated amount to be paid annually into the Social Insurance Fund out of moneys provided by the Oireachtas under Section 39, sub-section (9) (a) of the Social Welfare (Insurance) Bill, 1951.

I would ask the Deputy to await my speech on the Second Reading of the Bill.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the estimated number of persons who will be insured persons within the meaning of Section 4 of the Social Welfare (Insurance) Bill, 1951, (a) including all employment referred to in Part I of the First Schedule to the Bill and (b) excluding the particular employments referred to in Sections 3, 4 and 5 of Part I of the First Schedule to the said Bill.

The answer to part (a) of the question is 720,000. Sufficient information is not readily available to enable an estimate to be made as desired by the Deputy at (b).

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the estimated number of married women who will be insured persons under the provisions of the Social Welfare (Insurance) Bill, 1951.

The number of married women expected to become insured persons under the Social Welfare (Insurance) Bill, 1951, is estimated to be about 22,000.
