Vol. 130 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballina Alcohol Exports.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the alcohol which is produced at the Curroy factory, Ballina, is transported a distance of approximately 180 miles by road and exported through the port of Dundalk instead of being exported from Ballina port, which is only five miles distance from this factory, and where the dock workers are unemployed; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take to remedy this deplorable state of affairs.

I am aware that industrial alcohol produced at the Curroy industrial alcohol factory is being transported by road to Dundalk for export.

Arrangements for the shipment of this alcohol are in the hands of the purchasers who, I understand, considered the possibility of using other ports, including Ballina, before deciding on Dundalk.
