Vol. 130 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport of School Children.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware that the children from Esker, Polough, Garrynagry, Prioban and Killannine, County Galway, are still without a means of conveyance to St. Anne's National School, Rosscahill; and, if so, whether arrangements are being proceeded with to provide the 40 children in this area with the necessary transport.

A grant towards the cost of a transport service for the children residing in the districts in question was sanctioned in May, 1951. The service was not, however, put into operation as the tender was withdrawn. Further tenders have since been obtained but as these are in excess of the grant sanctioned it is necessary to have the matter reexamined. I will arrange to have a communication sent to the Deputy when a decision is arrived at in the case.
