Vol. 130 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1948.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is prepared to permit servants of local authorities who, though qualified, did not apply for registration as established servants within the statutory period set out under the Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1948, to apply now and receive credit for past service, if necessary, by the introduction of proposals for legislation.

Legislation amending the Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1948, would be necessary to enable local authorities to accept applications for registration as established servants from persons who failed to make such applications within the statutory period provided for in the Act which gave existing servants a period of six months in which to make a choice. I am not in a position to promise that any amending legislation will include such a provision.
