Vol. 130 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Spare Parts for Creameries.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the allocations of stainless steel and carbon steel to manufacturers of dairying plant in Great Britain have been drastically reduced; and, if so, if he will take steps to ensure that supplies of spare parts will be made available to allow existing creameries and pasteurising plants to continue to operate.

I am aware that reports have appeared in newspapers about the inadequacy of allocations of stainless steel and other steel to various manufacturers in Great Britain.

I have not received complaints of any difficulty in obtaining supplies of spare parts for machinery in Irish creamery and pasteurising plants. If any specific complaint is made to my Department, the matter will be investigated with a view to taking such steps as may be open to me.
