asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the number of new recruits to the Army in each month since the 1st June, 1951, and the present strength of the Army.

The number of recruits accepted for the permanent force in each month since the 1st June, 1951, was as follows:—

The strength of the permanent force, exclusive of chaplains and members of the Army Nursing Service on 15th May, 1952, was, subject to minor adjustments on audit, 1,151 officers and 9,126 other ranks—total 10,277.
