Vol. 132 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Housing Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the cause of the delay in advertising for tenders for the proposed housing scheme at Dingle, County Kerry.

Plans prepared by Kerry County Council for a scheme of 13 houses at John Street, Dingle, were approved in November, 1951, and the council were also informed in September, 1951, that no objection would be raised to the erection of a further four houses on a site on the opposite side of this street. As the sites would not accommodate sufficient houses to meet the full housing needs of the town the council subsequently decided to open negotiations for the acquisition of a larger site. On the 14th May, 1952, proposals were received in my Department for the acquisition of a site to accommodate 25 houses. The revised proposals are being examined by my Department's technical advisers and a decision in the matter will be issued to the council at an early date.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state if his Department received an application from Tralee Urban District Council for sanction to build schemes of houses at Spa Road, Tralee; and, if so, the date of its receipt and the cause of delay in giving sanction.

Lay-out and house plans for a scheme of 46 houses at Spa Road, Tralee, were received in my Department on the 7th February, 1952. As the scheme is designed to provide houses at low rents a considerable amount of consultation between the technical officers of my Department and those of the council was necessary to secure the most economical utilisation of the site. The plans were generally approved on the 30th May.
