Vol. 132 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kildare Water and Sewerage Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received proposals from the Kildare County Council for a water supply and sewerage system for Carna, Suncroft, County Kildare, since the 21st March, 1952; and, if so, when he hopes to be able to approve of them.

Preliminary proposals for the provision of piped water and sewerage services for a new housing scheme at Carna, Suncroft, were received in my Department from Kildare County Council on the 24th March last. Certain additional information bearing on the public health aspects of the proposals has been requested from the council. When this information is submitted decision on the council's proposals will be issued without delay.

Would the Minister tell us when the additional information was requested?

It would take some time to get that information.

The reason I ask the question is that the county council were told on Monday week last that the delay was with the Minister's Department, that the proposals had been there since the 21st March, and that no information had been requested from the county council from that date.

The Deputy is aware, of course, that the county councils prepare a priority list for these works in their counties. We have no evidence that the council concerned regard this as a scheme which they were placing high for priority purposes.

Will the Minister tell the House what interpretation his Department put on the many pressing inquiries so that we may get a decision out of the Department?

All I can say is that the county council has not placed this scheme high on its priority list.

I do not think the Minister is correctly informed about that.
