Vol. 132 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grant for Knit-wear Industry.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if an application was received by An Foras Tionscal from Ballydehob developments committee for a grant towards the development of a knit-wear industry in that village; and, if so, what action it is proposed to take on the application.

I would refer the Deputy to replies which were given on the 2nd April and 21st May to similar questions concerning the administration of the Undeveloped Areas Act.

Am I to get no information regarding this question?

Can we get any of the money you are spending?

The Deputy should understand, if he will read the Act, that Foras Tionscal was set up independently of the Government. It administers the funds without consulting the Government. Therefore, I can give the Deputy no information as to what they are proposing to do, nor can I influence their decision in any way.

Am I not entitled to inquire whether West Cork is to get any of this money?

They lost a seat in West Mayo.

Mr. O'Higgins

They lost nothing in West Cork.

The Deputy is not improving the chances.
