Vol. 133 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Strawberry Pulp Imports.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state (a) the total weight of strawberry pulp imported for jam manufacture in 1951, (b) the quantity imported in the first six months of this year, (c) the anticipated imports for the remaining six months of this year, and (d) the price per ton of the pulp at Dublin.

Since strawberry pulp is not separately distinguished as a heading in the Official Import List, it is not possible to furnish exact particulars of imports of this commodity. It is estimated, however, that (a) the quantity of strawberry pulp imported in 1951 was 300 tons, (b) the quantity imported in the first six months of 1952 was 120 tons. As to (c) of the Deputy's question, it is not possible, on information available, to forecast imports during the last half of the present year. As to (d), the average c.i.f. import price during the period January, 1951, to June, 1952, was about £110 per ton.
