Vol. 133 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Glencar Fishing Rights.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that the local farmers are anxious to purchase the fishery rights on the Eagar estate, Glencar, County Kerry, and, if so, if he will now request the Land Commission to facilitate them in the matter.

As I pointed out in my reply of the 11th June last to a similar question by the Deputy it is likely to be a considerable time before the Land Commission will be in a position to decide what action they will take regarding the fishing rights in question.

Mr. Flynn

Could the Minister see his way to ask the Department to intimate to the people from whom the lands have been purchased that his Department would also be anxious to take over the fisheries because I understand that the people who sold the land are now negotiating the sale of the fisheries to other vested interests? If the Minister could give intimation of the fact that the Department, having purchased the land for forestry purposes, would also purchase the fisheries for further development to be controlled by the Land Commission it would be well, I think.

I am having further inquiries made into the matter and shall bear the Deputy's representations in mind.
