Vol. 133 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the Rathmore area, County Kerry, is at present being linked up under the rural electrification scheme and that a request has been made to the Electricity Supply Board on behalf of the residents of Gneeveguilla, close by, to extend the supply to that village and district and, if so, if he will make representations to the board to have the proposal favourably considered before their staff leaves the area.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the board does not propose to extend the boundary of the Rathmore area in order to include the village and neighbourhood of Gneeveguilla for the purpose of the supply of current under the rural electrification scheme but it is the board's intention to investigate the possibility of developing the region of Gneeveguilla and Ballydesmond as a separate area under the scheme.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will name the areas in South Kerry where local and official surveys have been made for the installation of rural electrification schemes and state which of the areas are likely to get a supply during the course of the present financial year.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the residents of Beaufort, Aghadoe and Kilgarvan areas in South Kerry have been canvassed by the board's officials under the rural electrification scheme and that a survey by a local committee has been carried out in the Tuosist area. The board consider that it is unlikely that development will take place in any of these areas during the course of the present financial year.
