Vol. 133 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Development of Clady River.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if and when it is proposed to commence the development of the Clady River in County Donegal.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that a scheme for the hydro-electric development of the Clady River has been prepared and that it is now under consideration by the board. It is not possible, at this stage, to say when the actual work of construction will commence.

The Minister did indicate some time ago that it was hoped to complete the development of the Clady River in the year 1957. Can he indicate now when it is likely to begin?

I have just told the Deputy that the Electricity Supply Board are unable to say when it is likely to begin.

Is the Minister aware that in reply to a similar question by Deputy O'Donnell and myself in regard to the scheme some time ago we got exactly the same answer?

That means the position is still exactly the same. Consistency is our strong point.
