asked the Minister for Finance if it is proposed at an early date to increase the pensions of retired civil servants and other Government workers, and if he is aware that through the withdrawal of food subsidies their cost of living has increased and that many of them are now suffering hardship and are without means to meet the increase recently imposed through the Budget.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pensions of Retired Government Officials.
Mr. Byrne
I have nothing to add to the reply which I gave to a parliamentary question on this matter by Deputy Norton on 6th May, 1952.
Mr. Byrne
Is the Minister aware that since then his Budget has increased the cost of living very considerably for these people? What is he going to do to help them to meet that increased cost of living, so as to put them in a position to provide for themselves the ordinary food supplies they used to partake of before his Budget was introduced?
He will have to ask Mr. Butler before he can answer that question.
Your father asked Asquith.
He asked Gladstone.
