Vol. 133 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Market for Potatoes.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will indicate the steps he proposes to take to ensure that County Galway farmers will not this year have difficulty in finding a market for both their certified seed potatoes and ware potatoes, as was their experience in respect of last year's stocks.

The Irish Potato Marketing Company Limited has been established to market our certified seed and surplus ware crop. It is yet too early in the season to give an indication of the prospects, but I am quite satisfied that the interests of County Galway farmers will not be neglected.

Their interests were neglected last year.

No. As a matter of fact, as the end of the season has proved, it is very difficult to get potatoes for silage demonstration in the country.

I can inform the Parliamentary Secretary that there was considerable difficulty in regard to disposal.

They were all cleared.
