Vol. 133 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Great Northern Railway Legislation.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will allay the anxiety of Great Northern Railway shareholders by stating when he proposes to introduce proposals for legislation that will enable him to pay the owners of this concern without further delay.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the long delay in introducing proposals for legislation to provide payment to Great Northern Railway stockholders, he will consider compensating these people by way of payment of interest from the date the shareholders' offer was accepted.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 3 and 4 together.

Legislation for the acquisition of the Great Northern Railway is in preparation and substantial progress has been made in consultation with the Six-County Government. I hope to introduce the Bill in Dáil Éireann immediately after the recess.

There are no restrictions on stock exchange dealings in Great Northern Railway stocks. Any stockholder who may wish to dispose of his holdings would be at liberty to do so. It is not proposed to pay interest on these stocks from State funds.
