Vol. 134 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Butter Importation.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state whether it is intended to import creamery butter in greater quantities during the coming winter than during the period since 13th June, 1951.

Mr. Walsh

I would refer the Deputy to the reply which I gave to the question on this subject asked by Deputy Norton on Thursday last, the 23rd October.

Mr. Flanagan

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state how much butter he proposes to import in the coming year.

Mr. Walsh

If the Deputy's question relates to the coming butter-production season which commences about 1st May next, the answer is that the quantity of butter which it may be necessary to import will depend on the levels of butter production and consumption during that season, which levels cannot of course be predicted now. If, on the other hand, the question relates to the period between now and the beginning of the next butter production season I would refer the Deputy to the reply which I gave to a question on this subject asked by Deputy Norton on Thursday last, the 23rd October.
