Vol. 134 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Closing of County Kerry Railway.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the great hardship that would otherwise be caused, and for the general benefit of the people and farmers of the district, he will have the decision to close the railway from Tralee to Dingle reviewed.

The Minister for Industry and Commerce has now no function in regard to the closing of Córas Iompair Éireann branch lines. By the Transport Act, 1950, the functions formerly exercised by him in this regard were transferred to the Transport Tribunal established by that Act. The decision of this tribunal, on the application made by Córas Iompair Éireann for orders to authorise the permanent discontinuance of merchandise train services between Tralee and Dingle, will be final, and I have no powers under the Act to review it.
