Vol. 134 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Afforestation Work.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is now in a position to state if work has begun or will begin during the planting season on the Lickeen afforestation key centre, Glencar, County Kerry.

No decision has yet been taken regarding the probable date of commencement of work at Lickeen, Glencar.

Can the Minister state if there is any likelihood that work will be done there during the coming planting season?

It is possible, if we acquire land between now and the planting season, that planting may actually start on this land. We are awaiting a certain amount of land in this and other areas. Our planting programme is slightly dependent on the outcome of such negotiations.

Will the Minister agree that while awaiting acquisition of other lands work may begin at Lickeen— work such as clearing out the area, preparing for planting, and so forth?

I could not answer that specifically. I will look into the matter.

Question No. 50. Question No. 49 is postponed.
