Vol. 134 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dredging of Dingle Harbour.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will now state when it is proposed to carry out the dredging of Dingle Harbour.

The consulting engineer engaged by the Dingle Harbour Commissioners to make a preliminary survey of the harbour recommended, as an alternative to dredging, that consideration be given to the question of erecting a jetty at a point in the harbour where he considered recurrent dredging of an extensive nature would not be necessary. It has been decided that the suggestion would not suit the fishery interests. With a view to proceeding with the dredging necessary in the fishery interests it is intended on the advice of the Office of Public Works to ask the harbour commissioners at an early date to have a close survey made of the area between the pier and the deep water and soundings plotted. I cannot at present say when the actual dredging operations may commence.
