Vol. 134 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compounding of Prescriptions.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state if persons who have passed the examination held by the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland for qualified assistant compound and dispense prescriptions.

The legal position is that a qualified assistant may compound and dispense prescriptions in the temporary absence of the pharmaceutical chemist or the dispensing chemist and druggist. The qualified assistant is not entitled to conduct or manage a business or to keep open shop on his own account.

Am I to understand that a qualified assistant is entitled to compound?

He can both dispense and compound.

Would the Minister tell us then what is the object in requiring such a person to pass an examination under the recent Pharmacy Act?

That is a separate question.
