Vol. 134 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grass Seed Market.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that the market for grass seed in County Monaghan has collapsed; that farmers are unable to market their grass seed crops; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take to relieve their difficulties.

Mr. Walsh

I am not aware that there has been a collapse in the market for grass seed in County Monaghan. When the markets opened prices were in the region of 32/6 per cwt. On the introduction of the prohibition Order prices advanced to 40/-. They have since come down, but buying has not ceased and I expect that the crop will be cleared by the end of the season. I am keeping the matter under close observation.
