Vol. 135 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Killarney National Park.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will have the necessary steps taken and the requisite grants made available for the lowering of the high walls surrounding the national park, Killarney, so that the beauties of the lakes and their immediate surroundings may be seen by tourists and others when passing along the main Killarney to Kenmare road.

The boundary wall of the Bourn Vincent Memorial Park between the main entrance and Torc Waterfall acts as a protection to lands controlled by the Forestry Branch of the Department of Lands. I am advised that lowering the wall would not provide views of the lakes from the road because of intervening belts of woodland varying in depth from 50 to 500 yards. The boundary wall along the Middle Lake was lowered some years ago to provide views of that lake from the road.

If he cannot lower the wall, would the Parliamentary Secretary at least consider doing away with the dunduckety mud colour on the railings in the grounds and getting them painted white?

That is a separate question.
