Vol. 135 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the present position regarding the demand for a rural electrification scheme for the Milltown-Listry and the Beaufort districts, County Kerry.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the Mill-town area which includes Listry and Beaufort has been considered on a number of occasions for development under the rural electrification scheme but has not so far been selected as the estimated financial returns would not justify development. The area will be considered for selection at a later stage, but I am unable to state when development is likely to take place.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what progress has been made in connection with the installation of a rural electrification scheme for the Gneeveguilla-Ballydesmond area.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that an official canvass of the Ballydesmond area which includes Gneeveguilla is at present in progress. It is not possible at this stage to indicate the prospects of the development of the area under the rural electrification scheme.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what progress has been made towards the installation of a rural electrification scheme for the Glenbeigh-Caragh area, and if Glencar will be included in the scheme.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that those residents interested in the development of the Glenbeigh-Caragh area under the rural electrification scheme have been advised as to the procedure for organising a local canvass. Until this canvass has been made it will not be possible for the board to decide whether an official canvass would be justified. The possibility of including Glencar in this area will be investigated.
