Vol. 135 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Commonwealth Conference.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if, in view of the fact that this country is a member of the sterling area, the Government have been kept informed of the progress of the discussions at the recent Commonwealth Conference in London and if it is proposed that representatives of the Government will have discussions with the British Government on the results of this conference.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. With regard to the second part, the conference to which the Deputy refers is not a sterling area conference; but I am sure if any conclusions emerge from it which might affect our interests as a member of the sterling area, they will be communicated to us in the normal way and arrangements made for their discussion.
