Vol. 135 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Housing Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will indicate if any plans, including development plans, for housing schemes have been received in his Department from Cork Corporation; and, if so, if he will state when they were received and when it is hoped to sanction them.

Sketch plans for a scheme of 162 houses on portion of a site at Killeenreendowney were received in my Department from the Cork Corporation on the 14th ultimo. A key plan subsequently requested by the Department was received on the 5th of this month and a decision on the proposals will issue at an early date.

Lay-out plans for schemes at Poula-duff Road (24 houses) and Churchfield (361 houses) have been approved. Proposals to accept tenders for the development of those sites were received in my Department on the 19th and 7th ultimo respectively. Decisions in those cases will also be issued shortly.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will indicate (1) the number of houses built by the Cork Corporation in each of the years from 1945 to 1952; (2) the location and number of houses in each scheme; (3) the amounts paid by way of grants from the Transition Development Fund as a subsidy to loan charges in each scheme and the average amount per house, and (4) whether any amounts are still due to the corporation; and, if so, the particulars in each case as well as the reasons for nonpayment.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, a Cheann Comhairle, with your permission, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

As regards paragraph (4) of the question, any balances of grants payable will be determined as soon as final particulars of the finances of the schemes are available.

The allocation of the Transition Development Fund grant to the schemes completed prior to 1951 was recently revised following receipt of further particulars regarding the financing of the schemes.
