Vol. 135 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disemployment of Wexford Road Workers.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that many road workers have recently been discharged in the New Ross area of County Wexford; and, if so, if he will make a grant available forthwith to ensure their employment over the Christmas season.

The Wexford County Council were informed on 18th February last of the Road Fund grants available to them for the financial year 1952-53. The timing and location of their road works is primarily a matter for the county council.

I understand that, in fact, most of the men discharged in the New Ross area, who are casual workers and were let go because the schemes on which they were engaged had terminated, have been re-employed on other works.
