Vol. 136 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turf Prices in South Kerry.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that an uneconomic price is being offered to turf producers in Ballinskelligs, Portmagee, Filemore, Cahirciveen and other areas in South Kerry; and, if so, if he will request the E.S.B. to purchase turf from the producers referred to on similar terms to those under the 1952 arrangement.

My information is that the average prevailing price for turf in these areas this year is much the same as that paid last year by the E.S.B. Regarding the latter part of the question, I would refer the Deputy to my replies to previous similar questions regarding these and other areas.

If, in fact, quantities of turf remain unsold in the areas now in question at the end of the winter they will be dealt with in the manner already indicated.
