Vol. 136 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Afforestation Areas.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (1) the number of acres of land offered in the GlencarGlenbeigh area for afforestation, excluding Lickeen, already acquired, and (2) the number of acres surveyed and in process of acquisition.

The area of land on offer for afforestation in the Glencar-Glen-beigh area is approximately 1,355 acres of which 1,025 acres have been inspected.Acquisition proceedings are in progress in respect of 615 acres of this area.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether his Department has yet formulated a scheme to develop forestry in the Beara peninsula.

The total area at present on offer in the Beara peninsula amounts to less than 150 acres and unless additional offers of suitable land are forthcoming in the vicinity, it is unlikely that it will be possible to establish a new forest centre here in the near future.
