Vol. 136 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Alleged Ballinalee Conspiracy.

On a point of order, who is asking Deputy Dr. Browne's question.

Is some Deputy authorised to ask the question?

Mr. Carter rose.

asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been directed to the statement appearing in the newspapers concerning the conspiracy which appears to have been entered into to starve the Mannix family, of Ballinalee Post Office, as a reprisal against the decision of the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs in making this appointment; and if he will state what action he proposes to take to bring these people to justice.

My attention has been directed to the newspaper statements in question. The Gardaí are aware that a conspiracy exists to prevent the Mannix family from getting supplies of food, clothing and other essentials and they are actively pursuing inquiries with a view to securing evidence for the institution of criminal proceedings.

Arising out of the Minister's reply to the Deputy Noel Browne—Carter—Hartnett question, is the Minister aware that efforts are being made to end this matter and thata question such as that is not helpful? Will the Minister consider the reply that he gave in answer to Deputy Cogan relating to the prosecutions during the milk strike, as to what action the Minister takes in cases like that?

That is a separate matter entirely.
