Vol. 136 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Electricity Generating Stations.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the exact location of the hand-won turf generating plant which the E.S.B. propose erecting near Dungloe, County Donegal, has as yet been selected; and, ifso, if he will state the exact location of the site and when it is proposed to erect the generating plant.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the exact location of the hand-won turf generating station in West Donegal has not yet been selected. The board have been requested to take all necessary steps to secure the early erection of the station, and as stated in the Press announcement, which was issued in the matter, it is hoped to have it in operation in about three years' time.

Would the Minister not consider that it would have been better and more judicious of the board to have selected the site before making this announcement?

I would prefer not to express an opinion.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when the E.S.B. hope to be in a position to invite tenders for the erection of the generating station on the Clady River, County Donegal.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the design work on the Clady hydro-electrical scheme is proceeding and that the board hopes to be in a position to issue the inquiries for the civil constructional works at an early date.

Could the Minister indicate what he means by an early date?

I could not.
