Vol. 136 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Milk Area Statistics.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state in respect of the Dublin area as defined by the Milk (Regulation of Supply and Price) Act, 1936, (a) the number of milch cows and heifers in calf, (b) total cattle and (c) the percentage relation of the former to the latter on the 1st June, 1952.

I presume, in view of a similar question by the Deputy to which I replied on 27th February, 1952, that the area to which he refers is the Dublin sale district asdefined by the Milk (Regulation of Supply and Price) Act, 1936, and by Orders made thereunder. In the Dublin sale district on 1st June, 1952, (a) milch cows and heifers in calf numbered 21,181, (b) total cattle numbered 67,981, and (c) the former constituted 31.2 per cent. of the latter.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the average daily amount of milk sold in the Dublin sales area in 1952, differentiating between milk from creameries and from producers.

The average daily quantity of whole milk sold or acquired for sale in the Dublin sale district as defined for the purposes of the Milk (Regulation of Supply and Price) Act, 1936, was 61,177 gallons during the year 1952, consisting of a daily average of 2,793 gallons from creameries and 58,384 gallons from producers.
