Vol. 136 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Gaeltacht Grants.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the reasons for the exclusion of the Gaeltacht area of Ballymacoda, from the grants of £50,000 allocated to the Cork County Council for the social and economic development of Gaeltacht areas, and if he is aware that Ballymacoda is a congested area and, in addition, a special tourist area.

Expenditure from the grant of £50,000 to Cork County Council is confined specifically to roads in the western engineering district and those portions of the northern and southern engineering districts adjacent to it and to County Kerry through which routes pass to tourist areas. Ballymacoda is in East Cork and is not regarded for the purpose of this grant as a congested or Gaeltacht area.
