Vol. 137 No. 7

Grass Meal (Production) Bill, 1952— Seanad Amendments.

The Dáil went into Committee to consider the amendments from the Seanad.

We propose to accept the amendments from the Seanad.

There is no objection to taking them now.

Mr. Lynch

I move that the Committee agree with the Seanad in amendment No. 1:—

A new section inserted before Section 9 as follows:—

(1) Where a person who is a director of the company becomes a member of either House of the Oireachtas, he shall, upon his becoming entitled, under the Standing Orders of that House, to sit therein, cease to be a director of the company.

(2) A person, who is for the time being entitled under the Standing Orders of either House of the Oireachtas to sit therein, shall be disqualified from being a director of the company.

This new section was accepted on the case made by Senator P.F. O'Reilly in the Seanad. Sub-section (1) provides that a person who is a director of the company on becoming a member of either House of the Oireachtas must cease to be a director of the company. Sub-section (2) provides that no member of either House of the Oireachtas may become a member of the board. The section brings this Bill into line with a similar provision in the Restrictive Trade Practices Bill as accepted by the House.

Question put and agreed to.

Mr. Lynch

I move that the Committee agree with the Seanad in amendment No. 2:—

In Section 11 sub-section (3), page 4, line 23, after the words Iris Oifigiúil, the words “and in at least two daily morning newspapers published in the State” inserted.

This amendment was inserted in substitution for an amendment tabled by Senator P.F. O'Reilly and it provides for a little more publication than was originally provided for in the Bill as introduced in this House. Deputy Sweetman made a similar case for some degree of extra publication and I think the amendment of the Seanad should be acceptable to the House.

It will be published in the newspapers as well as in Iris Oifigiúil?

Mr. Lynch

Yes.

Question put and agreed to.
