Vol. 138 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Marketing of Oats.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the fluctuationin the price of oats last season, he will endeavour to secure a satisfactory and steady market for those farmers who will have surplus oats to dispose of after the next harvest.

It is not proposed to control the marketing or price of oats of the 1953 crop. The cash market for oats is limited, and the most remunerative market is obtained by growers who feed the oats to their own live stock.

Mr. O'Higgins

Will the Parliamentary Secretary remind the Minister of the promises made by his Party some years ago that they would fix minimum prices for oats?

When was that made?

Mr. O'Higgins

When Deputy Aiken was sowing his wild oats in Dundalk.
