Vol. 138 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gaeltacht Glass-house Scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when, where and how the Gaeltacht glass-house scheme is to be extended, and whether new houses will have heating equipment installed; and, if so, at what cost.

Mr. Walsh

As already announced, it has been decided by the Government to extend the Gaeltacht glass-house scheme by the erection of a unit of 100 glass-houses with a central station in the Cahirciveen area, County Kerry. Arrangements are being made to announce details of the scheme to prospective growers within the next few weeks.

Pending the outcome of tests with heating apparatus now being carried out in the Donegal unit, in conjunction with Bord na Móna, it is not proposed to install heating equipment in the Cahirciveen houses.

Is it proposed to extend the number of houses in Connemara and Donegal and perhaps the Ministerwould tell us why it is not intended to install heating in the houses in Kerry?

Mr. Walsh

The heating of the houses in Donegal is in the experimental stage at the moment.

Do you propose to build more houses in Donegal and Connemara?

Mr. Walsh

That is a separate question.

No. The question reads: "When, where and how the Gaeltacht glass-house scheme is to be extended." The Minister has told me that he is going to build 100 houses in Cahirciveen and what I want to know is whether he is going to extend the number in Connemara and Donegal? That surely is not a separate question.

Mr. Walsh

Not at the moment.

God be with the days when we were all crying salt tears because we were not going to extend it.

You tried to kill it but you failed.

Your faces are red to-day.

Do dhein tú iarracht ar é a mharbhú ach níor éirigh leat.
