Vol. 138 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Milk Producers.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that the milk producers of the Dunquin district, Dingle, County Kerry, have to travel miles to the nearest creamery; and, if so, if he will now state if his Department proposes to have a creamery erected to facilitate them.

Mr. Walsh

I am aware that some of the farmers in the Dunquin district are fairly distant from creamery premises but a number of surveys which the Dairy Disposal Company made in this district all disclosed that the quantity of milk available would not justify the provision of a cream separating station there. The company offered to provide long cars for the cartage of milk from the area to existing separating stations at Ballyferriter and Ventry, but the local farmers did not avail themselves of this offer. I understand, however, that as a result of further representations recently made to the company, it proposes to investigate the matter locally once against to ascertain whether there has been any change in the general situation.
