Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Central Bank.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state when the statement of accounts of the Central Bank for the year ended the 31st March, 1953, is likely to be made available to the Oireachtas.

I am informed that the accounts of the Central Bank for the year ended 31st March, 1953, have been sent for audit to the Comptroller and Auditor General. When the audit has been completed the accounts will, in accordance with the statutory provisions, be presented to the Dáil.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount held by the Central Bank on the 31st day of March, 1953, in (a) British Government securities in the Legal Tender Note Fund; (b) other sterling balances held in the Legal Tender Note Fund and (c) other British Government securities, not being part of the Legal Tender Note Fund held by the Central Bank on the 31st March, 1953.

The information sought by the Deputy in regard to (a) British Government securities in the Legal Tender Note Fund and (b) other sterling balances held in the Legal Tender Note Fund as at 31st March, 1953, will be shown in the accounts of the Central Bank for the year ended 31st March, 1953, which are at present under audit by the Comptroller and Auditor-General. The information required to be furnished by the Central Bank in its accounts does not extend to the publication of details of the securities held for the General Fund.
