Vol. 139 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rearranged Holdings.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (a) the number of holdings rearranged by the Land Commission from 31st March, 1952, to 31st March, 1953, in each county where the poor law valuations have been brought up to standard, (b) the number rearranged but still below the standard poor law valuation, (c) the number of enlargements allotted, and (d) the number of turbary allotments.

(a) and (b): 371 holdings were rearranged as follows:

Donegal 6, Carlow 3, Kilkenny 5, Laois 2, Longford 2, Louth 1, Meath 12, Offaly 9, Westmeath 2, Clare 4, Cork 13, Kerry 11, Tipperary 1, Galway 93, Leitrim 7, Mayo 170, Roscommon 22, Sligo 8.

As the poor law valuations have not yet been apportioned, it is not possible to state how many of the rearranged holdings have not been brought up to the economic standards of valuation. In all cases of rearrangement, holdings are brought up to or as near economic standard as possible having regard to the amount of land available for the purpose.

(c): 925 holdings were enlarged.

(d): 1,108 turbary plots and rights-of-turbary were allotted.
